Meet Me!

I wrote my first book in junior secondary school with my best friend.

I wasn’t surprised when my friend, B suggested that we write an adventure book similar to the Famous Five by Enid Blyton.

Because we’ve devoured loads of books as bookworms since our early age.

We completed our first manuscript but didn’t get it published as my dear friend relocated abroad with her family.

This first step into writing would be what eventually got me to be a Book coach and an author after going the merry go round without knowing.

The merry go round was from civil engineering to accounting and back to my first and last loves; reading and writing. 😍

With my talent of reading and writing, I would have been amazing in an Art class, however, because I was good in my academics, I was automatically put into the Science class.

My dream course of choice to study in the University was Computer Science, however, instead of Ogun State University giving me that, I was given Food Technology to study.

Of course, I wasn’t interested. I was still contemplating the next step to take when my maternal great uncle called me from the North to tell me that I’ve been given Civil Engineering to study in Bayero University Kano.

Seeing my school mates getting admitted into various universities nationwide prompted me to accept Civil Engineering because I wasn’t keen on waiting another year to get in. Studying engineering was kind of cool too, right?

As a female in 1994, studying Civil Engineering wasn’t a commonality. In my department for that set, we were only two females and five in total in the whole faculty. Two in the Electrical Engineering department and one in the Mechanical Engineering department. We had three departments in the faculty back then.

I did enjoy the esteem of being an Engineering student with all the after lecture practicals and what not. I decided to work in an Engineering consulting firm after Uni, however, fate took over when I was led to work at my first job in a Chartered Accounting firm as a Computer Operator for a particular project the firm took on.

The idea was to work for a short term in the firm as I applied to different engineering firms. I eventually got a site work as one of the Site Engineers. I took on this job because I wanted to give myself the benefit of doubt of working on a site.

I’ll tell you this; it was the one month in my life that I loathed because the foremen and other workmen were too egotistical to take instructions from a woman! πŸ™„

At that point, I knew that working on site wasn’t my thing. I was at a crossroad.

Since I couldn’t get what I wanted, I started thinking of a career path change. It was a difficult decision to make.

After the completion of the project that I was employed to do as a Computer Operator, I was given an employment letter to work as an Audit Trainee. Accepting that offer started me on another path to becoming a Chartered Accountant after writing the professional exams of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria- ICAN.

You would think that I finally found my purpose and gift.

Nah…I was still on the journey.😁

Becoming an ACA – Associate Chartered Accountant did get me a job to work in the Oil & Gas industry for the next 13 years, but it didn’t quench my thirst for my purpose.

The magic finally happened when I came across NLP- Neuro-Linguistic Programming training in April 2017.

NLP turned my life 360Β° and changed my mindset forever!πŸ”₯

It was the cherry on the cake for me.

I was able to know my purpose that eluded me. It was right there under my nose all the while but I refused to notice it.

After my journeys from being an Engineer to a Chartered Accountant, I’ve discovered what my calling is.

I’m now passionate about helping and guiding women coaches and consultants to write their Author-ity books to earn consistently from their digital assets as they live amazing lives doing what they love.

Have you had to make uncomfortable decisions as you navigate life?

Thank you for reading. πŸ€—

I’m sincerely Raheemah Odusote.
